Professor Jacques Bergman is a leading expert in gastrointestinal endoscopy, specialising in the early detection and treatment of esophageal neoplasia. As head of the esophageal research team at Amsterdam UMC, he pioneers innovative imaging techniques, including computer-assisted detection, to improve the diagnosis of upper GI tract cancers. His research also focuses on risk prediction in Barrett’s neoplasia through biomarker development.

A trailblazer in endoscopic therapy, Dr. Bergman has been instrumental in advancing minimally invasive treatments such as endoscopic resection and ablation for early-stage neoplasia. Beyond his research and clinical contributions, he is dedicated to education and training, organizing programs through the Best Academia initiative (www.best-academia.eu).

Under his leadership, his research team—comprising three physicians/endoscopists, twenty-one clinical research fellows, three research nurses, and 2 physician assistants—continues to drive advancements in gastrointestinal endoscopy, shaping the future of early cancer detection and treatment.
